It’s not uncommon for a conservative to be charged as a book-banner by liberals. Of course, the charge is absurd. What they equate to “book banning” is simply choosing appropriate materials for education, or stocking children’s libraries with appropriate books. After all, you don’t want Johnny’s teacher to assign pornography as an assignment, or have Jimmy borrowing graphic books about the life and times of Charles Manson from the library. As a parent, you want to control how and when your children are exposed to these things.
But what’s even more fascinating is that while republicans and conservatives are perfectly happy with the lively discourse in print, in media, or on the airwaves, it is the liberals and democrats who try to shut up the other side. Michelle Malkin writes an article on the topic that is well worth the read.
Do you remember the book, “Unfit for Command”? If such a book were written about John McCain, I doubt you would find anyone anywhere trying to keep it out of the hands of people that wanted to read it. But when such a book is written about John Kerry, why, every trick in the book is used to keep it off the shelves and out of the hands of people who want to read it.
Interesting.
It seems the liberals are simply “projecting”—that is, taking attributes that they possess and claiming that those around them have the same attributes. That’s why they throw around charges of corruption when republicans have been steadily against corruption, especially in their own ranks. That’s why they throw around charges of child abuse, when conservatives afford every opportunity and growth for their children, and protect them from every abuse and harm appropriately. That’s why they charge us with being brown-shirts, when we honestly could care less who is saying what about us, because we trust the American people will be able to sort the truth out from fiction given both sides of the story. These are tactics and methods that the left uses, consistently, and wishes we used them as well so at least they could feel a little bit justified in doing wrong.
