The “New” Direction of the GOP: Reagan

By Jonathan Gardner

Note the news: In California, all of the tax increase referendums went down in solid defeat. The one referendum that passed was to limit public employee’s salaries during a deficit. (link, link)

Also note: polls show the majority of Americans are pro-life, not pro-choice. (link)

From the same link, the majority of Americans want government to actually shrink.

This is the “new” platform for the GOP:

  1. Fiscal conservatism. Cutting the salaries of public employees, reducing taxes, reducing spending. The more the merrier. (If you don’t believe government should be cut back, you aren’t a fiscal conservative.)
  2. Moral conservatism. Supporting the traditional family and protecting the unborn.
  3. Foreign policy conservatism. Projecting a strong America, determined to see freedom expand everywhere. Supporting our friends, fighting our enemies, and calling out oppression everywhere it is found. Negotiating real free-trade agreements with every country, but especially the third-world countries, because this is the only road to economic success for the poor.

Gosh, this sounds familiar!

This is why we need to see Charlie Crist fail in Florida. He is none of these things. Mark Rubio is what we need in the senate.

This is why the face of the party needs to be Dick Cheney, Rush Limbaugh, Sarah Palin, and every other American who believes America is great because our concept of freedom is what makes us great. Heck, the face of the Democratic Party should be like-minded conservatives as well, so people have a choice between two red-blooded Americans, rather than two red-shirted Marxists.

Barack Obama is a one-term president, our generation’s Carter to be succeeded by our generation’s Reagan. Since Obama is so far to the left, much farther than Carter would ever dream of being, our Reagan needs to be even more conservative than Reagan was to correct the damage.

If the GOP plays this right, this is the last time in 20 years that the democrats will have control of congress come 2010. We should elect representatives and senators that would make the ‘94 Republican Revolution seem like a minor uprising against statists and socialists.

We can, and must, reverse course of our country. We must eliminate the entitlement programs. We must end the stupid regulations of countless industries. We should divest the federal government of all its private assets. We should add a constitutional amendment that prevents any spending to bailout any industry in our country ever again, or to create social welfare or entitlement programs at the federal level.

Ron Paul should be the face of the Republican party. He is one of the few real conservatives in it. And even though I agree with the fact that the US should have a strong army to defend itself, it’s not the US’ job to police the world. Besides this, I completely agree. Wouldn’t it be funny if I move there and get into politics… I’d be what the stupid democrats dream about… An immigrant poor woman who made it… But I’d fail to meet their criteria on political preference.

It’s true that it’s not our job to police the world. However, it is our job to defend ourselves and protect our interests. Since we are king of the hill, other countries naturally turn to us for leadership in the world stage. Either that or they target us as public enemy #1. I wish the world didn’t revolve around the US, so that we could simply live out our lives according to our consciences. But wishes and horses…

One of these days, the US needs to send a bill to the rest of the world for services rendered. Either they answer the call for troops when the shooting is ready to start, or they pay the US coalition to do the shooting for them.

Perhaps it’s time to form a federal government of nations whose sole purpose is to collect taxes for war against nations with ill will. It could be patterned after the US federal government.
